Child Therapy

Childhood is often thought of as a simpler, more carefree time. But the reality is that the period between infancy and young adulthood is one of the most demanding phases of life. Children often struggle with emotional and behavioral challenges they do not yet know how to name or manage.

At Impact Counseling & Guidance Center, we are dedicated to supporting the mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being of children. We offer faith-based child therapy to help kids and teens understand their emotions as well as learn healthier ways to cope. Our licensed counselors work with children and families, providing support and guidance in a supportive and compassionate environment.

Play Therapy

Therapy for adults often primarily involves talking to a mental health professional. But for a young child, explaining why they feel or act a certain way can feel too overwhelming.

Play therapy is a therapeutic approach that uses a child's natural language: play. It allows little ones to communicate thoughts and emotions they may not yet be able to articulate through toys, games, and creative activities rather than words alone.

Through this process, therapists can observe patterns, understand what a child may be experiencing, and gently support emotional growth in ways that feel safe and familiar to the child.

Through play therapy, children can learn how to:

  • Process Big Emotions: Act out situations that are scary or confusing to make them feel manageable.

  • Develop Problem-Solving Skills: Test out different solutions to conflicts in a low-stakes way.

  • Build Confidence: Gain a sense of mastery and control over their environment.

  • Regulate the Nervous System: Use creative and sensory play to move from a state of "fight or flight" back to calmness.

Parents and families may also receive guidance to help reinforce progress outside of sessions.

Individual Counseling

Older children and teens often benefit from individual counseling that allows for more direct conversation. Our sessions provide a private, supportive space where young clients can talk about whatever is weighing on their mind, whether it's academic stress, difficulties with peers, trauma, or grief.

With individual counseling, children learn to improve their emotional awareness and communication skills. Counselors help young clients better understand their thoughts and emotions while learning healthier ways to respond to challenges at home, school, and in relationships.

Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART)

Accelerated Resolution Therapy, or ART, is an evidence-based approach that can help children and teens process distressing experiences. ART uses guided visualization and eye movements to support how the brain stores and responds to stressful memories, which can reduce emotional intensity over time.

ART may be appropriate for children and adolescents experiencing anxiety, trauma-related symptoms, phobias, or lingering emotional responses to past events. Sessions are adapted to be developmentally appropriate and guided by the child's readiness.
